Gathering Inspiration

Moodboard

Hello everyone - I have just started working on a new collection and as promised will be documenting my design process. I thought the easiest way to do this was via a regular blog post along with some social media posts.

I always start off with a moodboard to get some ideas down quickly and form a theme. Up until now most of my designs have been based around pastel, blue & green colourways, but this time I want to approach a different theme and colour palette. A more Autumnal look taking inspiration from where I live and walk my little dog “Murphy”.

Two years ago I brought home my first ever puppy and he has been a complete joy to our family ever since. I have lived in Aberdeenshire for nearly 20 years and have discovered I didn’t really know it at all. There are so many beautiful wooded walks right on my door step some that I never knew existed. Having a dog is probably one of the best additions to our family - who knew they could be so much fun!

Anyway, I digress…my inital moodboard starts with a super cute card given to me by a friend. It is exactly what Murphy does - he sits looking outside the window as I work in my studio. He gets me out walking everyday and just had to take centre stage in my inspiration board 🐾

Creating a moodboard is fun and very relaxing. I usually put some music on and just play around for a bit sometimes for hours! I want my next collection to have lots of textures including warm cosy colours so I have gathered lots of items from around my house and a few foraged plants from the woods. Some scraps from my sketchbook that include paint, ink and free motion embroidery along with various threads and a few images from magazines.

This is just a starting point to help me develop some ideas - I will move it to a digital version next and create colour palettes taken from my own photography.

I hope you will find my studio blog posts interesting and please feel free to get in touch with any comments or suggestions.
